History: Abigail Lane Thatcher was born on November 24, 6 weeks early, to Amelia and Thomas Thatcher. The couple was thrilled to have their first born but the joy was soon squelched by horror. Her mother had a very difficult labor and the bleeding hadn¡’t stopped. It ended in an emergency hysterectomy and the horrifying reality that the Thatcher family would never grow to more than three. The first week was treacherous for the little girl. Her lungs were poorly developed and her first week was spent on a ventilator in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. She progressed consistently throughout the first week and was taken off the ventilator at the beginning of her second week. The doctors still didn¡¦t feel she was ready to go home and so Amelia and Thomas had to leave their baby at the hospital.
3 weeks later Abigail was ready to come home and her parents were thrilled. The frail newborn soon grew into a precocious toddler and from there a brilliant grade schooler. Her parents were both devout Catholics and she began her schooling at a prestigious catholic girls school. She excelled in most of her classes and joined the school tennis team when she was 8. Her parents were thrilled that the difficult start their daughter had was having little affect on her as she grew. She was smaller than the other girls but mentally she was just as bright. But the families happiness came to an abrupt end on Abigail’s 11th birthday.
A letter appeared on the doorstep from a school her parents had never heard of: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her parents didn’t care what the school was but the last three words were enough for them to know their daughter was tainted. They were convinced she was possessed by the devil or had been claimed by him as one of his minions and they wanted nothing more to do with her and she was sent to live with her estranged Aunt Hilda. Her Aunt was the stark opposite of Abigail’s parents and when a letter arrived at her door she was infatuated with the idea. So the following September Abigail began her studies at Hogwarts. She was sorted into the Ravenclaw house and has managed to excel in Transfiguration and charms, though she does have a bit of trouble in Potions and History of Magic. Her only goal now is to graduate from Hogwarts and stay out of the politics of it all.
Personality: Abigail was raised by a very conservative couple, and as a result is very conservative herself. She has always been taught to say her yes mams and yes sirs and to give her elders the respect they deserve. She has never been one to start conversations first and is very shy to those she is not yet comfortable with. Once you’ve broken through the tentative outer shell Abigail is very warm and inviting.
Abigail can surprise many people. In a professional or educational setting she can be very demanding, as she is very dedicated to her schoolwork and feels that others should be as well. She does have strong opinions about certain topics. It may take her a while but she can usually muster up the confidence to let her opinions known. Abigail is a very humble person and has a very hard time accepting compliments or praise.
Character Flaws: Abigail has many flaws that seem to define her in many ways. She is an undeniable perfectionist and never seems to be happy with the work she completes. She has obsessive compulsive tendancies and can get nervous or disgruntled if things aren’t clean and tidy. She can sometimes concentrate too hard on a task and miss seeing the bigger picture. She has a hard time letting others get close to her and this takes a severe toll on her personal life.
Role Play Sample: [/size] Abigail slid the opaque glass door slowly and stepped onto the cold tiled floor. She reached for the towel hanging on the wall and wrapped it tightly around her small frame. Steam lingered in the air and dampened the air in the small bathroom. She dried herself off briefly and pulled open the door leading to her bedroom. Cold air blasted her and sent a chill down her spine, goosebumps taking their place on her newly shaved legs. Lane finished with the last bits of water still clinging to her body and wrapped the towel around her head, encasing her hair in a makeshift turban. She slipped into her undergarments and pulled out an oversized pair of flannel pajamas, pulling them on and tying the pants tight.
Abigail slipped her feet into her slippers and moved once more to the towel atop her head. She unwrapped her hair and rubbed the towel vigorously through it, drying it a little more. She lay the towel out to dry over her dresser and shook her hair out, releasing the last few loose drops of water. Content that she could get comfortable Lane made her way towards the crackling sounds of the fire set out in the common room and nestled onto the worn sofa and flipped open the novel she’d brought along. She picked up where she left off and was soon immersed in the riveting and dramatic story of a girl and her horse known as Black Beauty.
