Albus stepped off of the revolving stairway and walked quickly passed the Gargoyle Statue, which moved back into place to block the entrance of his office seconds after he exited. Things were rather subdued at Hogwarts. The year had just begun and people were settling into the new routine. It was this moment that Dumbledore chose to make an offering to one who had strayed onto a very dangerous path. A Slytherin, who was in over his head.
Dumbledore nodded once to a group of students and stopped to have a chat with Professor McGonagall briefly before he continued about his task. Professor Snape had informed Dumbledore that The Malfoy boy would be in Defence Against the Dark Arts class after lunch and it would be his best chance to speak with him.
The Ministry had not stopped it's interefering as it had promised and had threatened to bring in one or two new bylaws, even after the old ones had been removed. Dumbledore had a draft of said bylaws on his desk and it would be his next task to deflect them as useless. Persuading the Governers against the decrees would not be difficult. But the prodding and poking would not stop, Albus summarised.
The Headmaster came to the Defence Classroom just as the class were exiting.
'Mr. Malfoy, a word, if you please.'

Draco was sitting in Defense Against the Dark Arts class...though his mind was not on the lesson. His mind was on the fact that his father was right now rotting away in that dirty, filthy Prison. It was horrible! How could he think about his studies when his father was in that, that place. It was easier to concentrate here than in other classes, since Professor Snape was now teaching it. Still, his mind was on his father and the new orders he had been given. Even with the layers of cloth covering it, he still felt the burn of the Mark upon his arm. He was always aware of it and the new responsibilites he was forced to deal with. It took him a moment to realize class was over. Many of the students had already started to collect their books and leave.
Looking up, he caught Professor Snape looking at him. He couldn't read his Head of House's eyes, but he could imagine some of the possible thoughts. Draco nodded to him slightly, not sure exactly what he was nodding for, collected his books and his bag. He stood and one hand went to absently play with the silver snake pendent he always wore, as did several of his Housemates and one or two in other Houses. As he turned to leave, he heard his name being called. Looking over he saw, the Headmaster standing there. His heart dropped to his stomach, and he cleared his mind with the Occlumency skills his Aunt had taught him over a year ago. He walked over and inclined his head. "Headmaster. What can I do for you?"

Dumbledore caught Snape's eye over the boys head and the look he was returned puzzled the old Headmaster for a moment before the last sixth year, a Ravenclaw, closed the door on Professer Snape's classroom. Dumbledore returned his gaze and thoughts to the young man standing before him. He knew this talk was going to be difficult, the boy was the image of his father before him, if not even more fanatical than Lucius, almost all of Draco's adult family were members of Voldemort's army, in one way or another.
'As I understand it, your father was sentenced to life in Azkaban,' That was the worst of it over. 'I wished to express my consolances to you personally. I'm afraid I must also admit to being the person who incapacitated your father in the Department of Mysteries. I had offered Lucius an escape card before and he refused it, I would now like to give you the same offer.'
Albus thought that what he was implying was perfectly obvious.

I'm afraid I must also admit to being the person who incapacitated your father in the Department of Mysteries. I had offered Lucius an escape card before and he refused it, I would now like to give you the same offer.'
So this wasn't going to be a polite social call. No plesantaries, no comments about his classes or a welcome back to a new year. No, they were going straight to the dark and dirty of the conversation. The Headmaster offered his condolances, did he? How quaint! As if the High and Moral Albus Dumbledore would care about the emotional state of the Dark Slytherin Prince, Draco Malfoy. It was laughable. He would likely want to see Draco in the next cell to his father or dead. The young Malfoy knew that the Headmaster had been responsible for catching his father, though after hearing all he hd over the summer, Potter was as much at fault.
Draco kept his expression and thoughts as calm as possible. No sense it expressing his emotions. He felt better knowing that Professor Snape was in the room next to them, in his office. "An escape card, Headmaster? An escape from what, may I ask?"

Dumbledore sighed. The boy knew perfectly well what he was talking about. Time to commit, the elderly Headmaster supposed. 'I watched your father very closely during his time at Hogwarts. I was always rather concerned about the group of people that he was the ring leader of. It was a good thing that I was, of course. As I'm sure you are aware, your father was a marked Death Eater.' Dumbledore paused. 'While he was still young, I offered him the chance to escape the clutches of Lord Voldemort and his tyrannic rule and now he is locked away in Azkaban.'
Dumbledore looked at the boy, pointedly. 'As I said, I'm willing to extend the same offer to you. You are walking a dangerous path, Mr Malfoy.'
Dumbledore removed his glasses and cleaned the lenses on a kerchief he removed from his pocket, before placing them back on his face. 'Do not take this offer lightly!'
